Meet Our Team!
A Note From your Tournament Director
Cruz Soto

Hello everyone! My name is Cruz, and I'm a student studying astronautical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I came from Edison High School in Fresno, California, and wanted to bring an emphasis to Science in the academic communities in the central valley. I'm proud that we'll be supporting nearly 900 students in this year's tournament! While I'm not running around obsessing over Fossils here on the east coast, When I'm not playing everything from the latest FPS with my friends or sister to Among Us with the MIT Rocket Team, I'm usually getting obliterated in Call of Duty. I know you're all in Division C, but reach for the stars by fighting hard in the upcoming tournament!

Hey, I'm your test writer for Write It Do It! I'm from West Windsor, New Jersey, and have competed in Science Olympiad for five years, mainly in building events such as Gravity Vehicle or Boomilever. I also competed in some inquiry events, such as Write It Do It. I always enjoy helping out and writing tests for Science Olympiad competitions!

I'm one of your Fossils writers/supervisors, a student at the University of California Berkeley studying Chemistry! During my free time I like to read chemistry textbooks and collect fossils. I have been involved with Science Olympiad since the start of high school and plan on volunteering for the organization in my college years.

I'm your Forensics Writer, an incoming student at Pennsylvania State University studying Immunology and Infectious Disease. I've been involved with Science Olympiad since 2014, and have competed on both the Good Hope Middle School and Cumberland Valley High School teams. I've written tests (mainly bio and chem events) for multiple invitationals, and was the Test Coordinator for Eagle Invitational last year. When I'm not working on Science Olympiad, I'm either reading, looking at memes of opossums, or binge-watching Survivor with my family.

Howdy! I'm your Dynamic Planet test writer. I have competed for 5 years, bouncing around from chemistry to physics to build to inquiry events at Seven Lakes High School before finally settling on earth science events when I somehow qualified for the International Earth Science Olympiad. During my free time, I enjoy diving deep into the depths of Reddit and raising quails in my backyard.

Hello all. I'm one of your Chemistry Lab test writers, and I'm a current freshman at UCLA studying anything that interests me at the moment. I never really liked chemistry as a subject, but here I am I guess. I competed on Mission San Jose High School's SciOly team for four years and competed in every category of event. Science Olympiad is a huge part of my life and I'm really looking forward to helping out at Yosemite and other tournaments in the future.

"Hey all! I'm one of your Chemistry Lab test writers, and an incoming freshman at the University of Washington studying biochemistry. I am an alum of Palo Alto Scioly who specialized in all the chemistry based events such as forensics, promo, and of course the best event chem lab! Because of this I spent the last 3 years of my life playing with chemicals and trying not to cry at hard equilibria problems. Though my time in scioly was a lot shorter than most, the time spent was amazing. In my free time I like to teach others chemistry, do synthesis, and give back to the scioly community!"

Hi! I'm one of your test writers for Ornithology, and I'm currently a freshman at the University of Virginia. I've been involved with Science Olympiad since 2013 and competed for Syosset Scioly for four years, mostly specializing in biology, ID, and inquiry events. In my free time, I like sleeping, swimming, and watering my plants. I'm super happy to be helping out with Scioly and look forwards to continuing to do so!
